1 EURO SHOP

During the years of the financial crisis, many small shops closed down. Unemployment soared above 25%, while among young people, it reached 60%. However, the ones hit the hardest were the elderly pensioners.

In the photo, an old man emerges from a “one-euro shop.” He looks down at the pavement while reaching into his jacket pocket with one hand, speaking to himself. Many pensioners in Greece survive on a monthly allowance of just 400 euros, despite the cost of living being as high as in Germany.
