THE BOY WHO LOOKED AT SHOES
Every year on Good Friday, a long-standing tradition takes place in Chania. People visit the bazaar in the village of Voukolies, where they buy vegetables, livestock, shoes, clothes, and toys for children. It seems paradoxical that such a lively and festive occasion takes place on Good Friday—a day when, according to Christian belief, Jesus Christ was crucified and died.
This time, a car was filled with shoes, and a young boy eagerly examined them. However, the shoes were far too large for his small feet. Yet, he remained there, touching and admiring them—fully immersed in the simple joy of looking, feeling, and experiencing something new, even if he wouldn’t buy them.
